24 Elul, 5775 – 9 September 2015

Shalom Friends

We are preparing to move into the Hebrew New Year of 5776. This will begin Sunday evening Sept. 13 at sundown. Sundown is the beginning of the new Hebrew day as it is written in scripture. Genesis 1:5 – God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” So there was evening and there was morning-one day.

So we begin the celebration of Yom Teruah, Feast of Trumpets, Rosh HaShanah. This is the beginning of the new month of Tishrei, the seventh month of the year. Does this sound a little confusing? How can the seventh month be the beginning of the new year?

Rabbi Azriel Schreiber writes:
The year begins on different dates for different purposes: in Nissan, for dating a king’s reign; in Elul, for giving tithes from cattle; in Tishrei, for numbering the years and for giving tithes from crops; in Shevat, for giving tithes from the fruit trees (Mishnah Rosh Ha-Shanah 1:1). We number the months of the year from Nissan, but the number the year itself changes in Tishrei. The fact that Nissan is the first month is explicit in the written Torah (Ex. 12:2), and the fact that the years are counted from Tishrei is in the oral Torah (an undisputed statement in the Mishnah).

Day of Memorial – this is called New Year because it is referred to as the end of the year, Ex. 23:16; 34:22 also 2 Sam. 11:1, 1 Kings 20:22,26, 1 Chr. 20:1. (A)

Leviticus 23:24. Speak to the children of Israel saying, In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you will have a Shabbath, a memorial announced with a blowing of horns, a holy convocation.

Tishrei also welcomes in a new celestial sign in the heavens. Libra, which in Latin means weighing. The Hebrew name is Mozanaim, “the Scales, weighing. (B)

Let’s go back and look at scripture: Genesis 1:14, then God said, “Let lights in the expanse of the sky be for separating the day from the night. They will be for signs and for seasons and for days and years”.

Psalms 19:2-7, The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky shows His handiwork. Day unto day they speak, night to night they reveal knowledge. There is no speech, no words, where their voice goes unheard. Their voice has gone out to all the earth and their words to the end of the world. In the heavens He pitched a tent for the sun. It is like a bridegroom coming out his bridal chamber. It is like a strong man rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes it circuit to the other end. Nothing is hidden from its heat.

The Word of God is on a circuit and circles the earth. Things are completing and things are beginning. (C)

Isaiah 47:12-15 makes it very clear about astrology. We do not worship the sun, the moon, or the stars. We worship the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
The signs in the heavens are for us to keep in His time and to interpret.

1 Chronicles 12:33, and the children of Issachar, who were men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do;

I believe it is time for us (Church) to begin to seek as the sons of Issachar did , to understand the times and seasons.

The month of Tishrei is the month of Redemption.

My purpose in this letter is not to go into great detail about the coming new year. But to help us move through it.

I believe as we have looked back on the past year, we have repented of things we should not have done and of things we should have done when told so by The Lord, but we did not do them. Please my friends do not get caught up in the media of fear. We must keep our eyes focused of the return of The Lord. How can we better equip ourselves to help others in this time of uncertainty.

As we look at the month of Tishrei and the heavenly sign of Libra we see the Scales, Weights and Measures. We should focus on being “balanced”. This means being grounded in His Word. Balanced not only today but throughout this next year will help you travel this journey. Season after season will continue on. Will you be ready “in season & out of season”? Balance will be like walking on a broad open road, when sometimes it may look like a tight rope. But do not fear, keep the scales of life equally balanced. For God will never leave you nor forsake you.

Having a Hebraic mindset is like always spiraling up to the Divine Creator of the Heavens and the Earth. Learn to have faith in what God says and go trusting that He will lead you. Keep balanced. You only have to leave Egypt behind.
